We list this chicken house as upto 6 chickens. As a rough guide it can take :- 10 true Bantams, 7 Silkies, 5 Sussex. It is not really designed for birds larger than Sussex size, so if you have Orpingtons or similar large breeds, I would recommend the next 8 Chicken Houses. The reason we do not suggest larger breeds in this house is that the perches are in the middle of the house and there is not enough clearance for giant breeds to get on the perches.
We now offer a stand and bird ramp for the Chicken House that will raise the Chicken House 18" off the ground, stop rodents nesting and allow birds somewhere to hide in the rain or a good sun shade. We have found that with wetter and wetter times these come in really handy for keeping the birds dry and keeping health and egg production up.
Now for the main reason to choose a P&T Chicken house - Cleaning.
Our chicken housing is designed with poultry health in mind but also time saving.
If the house is on the ground, place a ground sheet on the floor one side of the house then remove both sides, sweep the dirty bedding on to the ground sheet, sprinkle Poultry Ark Maid on the floor, put on new chicken bedding then a little Red Mite Powder around the perches and edges, tip up nesting box over ground sheet, sprinkle Poultry Ark Maid again, then bedding put the sides on and the house is done in under 5 minutes! Drag or carry ground sheet to compost pile. If your house has a stand then just put a wheel barrow along side and sweep dirty bedding direct into it, no more bending.
If you order a stand, then you need a larger run, what this means is the run is taller than a normal run to compensate for the stand and of course we mesh 3 sides of the stand so the chickens can't just walk out. However I do recommend you look at the possibility of Electric Netting as this gives you and your birds so much more flexibility.
The approx base size of this house is 80cm x 80cm or 32" x 32" with the height being approx 48". As with all our houses, the nest boxes, perches and all fittings are inclusive.
